Sajidah Fulani (they/she) was raised between Amelia County, a red clay region of rural Virginia, and the states capital, Richmond. They received their Bachelors of Art from Bridgewater College in 2020, where they studied hand-built ceramic sculpture. Moving to Richmond in 2021, they began building Stoned Oasis, a series of smoking bowls that depict the infinite variety of women's body types. Their work has been shown at their Alma Mater, White Tulip Society, Woman Made Gallery, The Richmond Night Market, and SOMArts. They now reside in the Bay Area where they develop their surrealist style as a member of Clayroom Studios. Their artistic inspirations are Simone Leigh, Kerry James Marshall and Charles White. A social realist, their context typically revolves around social critique and the caste system, following the belief that arts purpose is to reflect and influence the experiences of each generation. To make fine art digestible to general audiences, they typically include written pieces with every work that explains it's intent. Their work is best described as social realism utilizing surrealist content with expressionist context.
